The work of the Standing Committee is currently dominated by the development of the Scottish Government’s Offender Management Plan which looks at community sentence as an alternative to short term prison sentences.

The priority for the Standing Committee over the coming year is to be in a position to advise the Scottish Government, COSLA and the Scottish Parliament of the best way to implement the Offender Management Plan. To do this effectively we have restructured our sub-groups to mirror the Scottish Government’s working groups on the Offender Management Plan.

In addition to this the Standing Committee will be looking at other aspects of the Criminal Justice and Licensing (Scotland) Act including community payback orders and to promote the benefits of community service the Standing Committee will be organising a national community service weekend at the beginning of 2010.
